RAGGED TOOTH SHARK / SAND TIGER SHARK
The Ragged-tooth Sand Tiger Shark Specialty Course is designed to educate divers about the biology, behaviour, and conservation of the ragged-tooth shark (Carcharias taurus).
The course covers taxonomy, distribution, preferred habitats, external anatomy, size, age, growth, and reproduction of the species. It also addresses the threats faced by ragged-tooth sharks, including fishing pressures and shark control programs, and emphasizes the importance of conservation efforts.
Additionally, the course provides practical guidance on diving with ragged-tooth sharks, including best practices and safety measures. Through presentations, images, videos, and knowledge reviews, the course aims to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of these sharks, encouraging informed decisions and support for ocean conservation.
Course Objective
Prerequisites
- To be certified as a RAID Scuba Diver, and/or a WSF Freediver or equivalent.
- To be 15 years of age.
- To have a minimum of SCUBA 5 hours logged underwater.
- To complete the course within 12 months.
Practical Course Content
- RAID On-line e-learning academic presentations, quizzes, exam and practical skills as detailed.
- Minimum of two open water training dives required.
Certification
- All open water skills have been acknowledged and accepted on-line through the RAID website by both yourself and your instructor.
- The RAID Dive Centre has confirmed certification on-line through the RAID website.
