NORMOXIC DECOMPRESSION
SIXTY METRES THE RAID WAY
Normoxic Trimix is the perfect course for experienced RAID divers whose goals include stepping up to deeper and more complex diving challenges. At this level of experience and training, students have made a serious commitment to excellence and safety and are growing their abilities well beyond the ordinary.
REASONS TO TAKE THIS COURSE
- RAID’s Normoxic Trimix course explores the theory, methods, and procedures for using helium breathing mixtures on dives as deep as 60 metres to reduce the effects of inert gas narcosis. This is essential training for conducting expedition-type dives in a variety of challenging conditions in fresh and salt water. Bottom mix must contain 18 percent oxygen, with decompression stress managed with up to three decompression gases containing up to 100 percent oxygen.
SKILLS (WHAT YOU’LL LEARN)
Your dive plans at this level will include working with detailed gas needs for exploration at depth and during lengthy decompression, gas choices tailored for the mission, oxygen management, the effects of helium on a diver’s body and judgment, the roles of traditional tables and late-generation dive computers, and finally emergency and contingency planning (equipment failure, omitted decompression, etc)
OUTCOME
For many technical divers, Normoxic Decompression, diving with mixed gas to 60 metres represents the most complex level of open circuit diving. Yes, RAID has OC courses that teach divers to venture well this level, but for many, normoxic decompression dives represent the pinnacle for technical diving with traditional scuba gear in sidemount or twinset configuration.
