EXTENDED DECOMPRESSION
A BRIDGE TO DEPTH WITHOUT HELIUM
In many locations around the world, helium gas, the accepted relief for divers from the rigours of inert gas narcosis, is unavailable. Yet dives to 40 or 50 or even 55 metres are possible in some conditions. This RAID course has been designed for those circumstances. This course is open to sidemount and twinset divers using up to four stage cylinders containing custom nitrox blends and air.
REASONS TO TAKE THIS COURSE
- There are deep wrecks and other types of dive site around the world in places where access to helium renders trimix diving impractical. This RAID Extended Decompression course is available to divers who wish to venture below 40 metres using compressed air as a breathing gas to a maximum depth of 55 metres. This program provides the training and background knowledge, and equipment selection and management techniques that help make such dives possible.
SKILLS (WHAT YOU’LL LEARN)
Dive plans at this level will include planning around detailed gas needs for exploration at depth and during lengthy decompression, gas choices tailored for the mission, oxygen management, the effects of helium on a diver’s body and judgment, the roles of traditional tables and late-generation dive computers, and finally emergency and contingency planning (equipment failure, omitted decompression, etc)
